The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) is seeking qualified candidates to serve as National Aquaculture Specialists in Tuvalu and Kiribati.
This position is part of the FAO Technical Cooperation Programme (TCP) project titled “Enhancing the contribution of aquaculture to economic development and food security: bridging key knowledge and technology with local comparative advantages (TCP/SAP/4006)”. The project aims to support the sustainable development of aquaculture in both countries, focusing on milkfish and bivalve farming to improve food security, create employment opportunities, and strengthen local economies.

Main Responsibilities
- Conduct a national assessment of milkfish and bivalve production to establish baseline data and develop an Action Plan.
- Support the procurement of aquaculture materials through FAO-SAP.
- Assist in planning and implementing training programmes for ministry staff and communities.
- Provide logistical support for national and regional workshops, including participant coordination and travel arrangements.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in aquaculture, mariculture, or related field.
- At least three years of experience in aquaculture, mariculture, or coastal fisheries.
- Working knowledge of English.
- Must be a national of Tuvalu.
Preferred Skills
- Experience in aquaculture or mariculture development in Pacific Island contexts.
- Strong communication and coordination abilities.
- Experience in training and capacity-building for community stakeholders.
- Familiarity with FAO or international donor-funded project procedures is an advantage.
